It's time for the ads of the week.
Welcome to The Ad Spot, a Friday rundown of the week's most talked-about ads. Here's what's trending.
Dear Ad Spotters,
We have news. We’ve been pumping out this newsletter full of trending ads for a few years now, this year will mark our third “ads of the year” special - and finally, it’s time for us to offer a way you can support us.
We’ve switched to Substack, and will be offering our newsletter subscription for $5/month or $50/year. Anyone who doesn’t subscribe will still get the Ad Spot at a minimum of once or twice per month, whereas paying subscribers will continue to get newsletters every Friday morning, have access to past issues, access to our Christmas and Super Bowl special editions, and be able to leave comments with the community.
For our current subscribers (you), we’re doing a 50% off forever offer, so you’ll be able to join without breaking the bank. That’s $2.50/month or $25/year, according to our math.
Don’t want to join? No problemo. We’ve loved having you here and hope you’ll continue to receive our monthly emails. And now, onto the week’s top 10 trending ads.

Finally, a toothpaste that makes the transition from clean teeth to orange juice just a little bit less disturbing. (Cramer-Krasselt)
🖐 Durex - The Breakup Film (Funny)
Lockdown is over, it’s time to play with others. (Durex Australia)
🥕 ALDI - Kevin the Carrot’s 2021 Christmas Advert
If you’re not familiar with ALDI’s Kevin the Carrot Christmas ads, what took you so long. If you are familiar, you’re probably excited to hear that Kevin has a new friend: Ebanana Scrooge. (McCann UK)
🎄 John Lewis - Unexpected Guest
Oh and in case we forgot to mention, yeah it’s Christmas ad season. John Lewis dropped their Christmas advert this week as well. (In-house)
🔥 The Good Fire - Launch Film
We loved this idea, the presentation of it, everything. (Above+Beyond/London)
🛋 IKEA Canada - Assemble Together
Yes, I’ve mentioned it before and I’ll say it again, IKEA is my all-time favorite advertiser. I just love how they run minute-long ads and the only REAL product they highlight is a four-dollar pack of 100 tealight candles. (Rethink)
🍩 Tim Hortons x Justin Bieber - Timbiebs
Canada’s favorite doughnut chain teamed up with Canada’s second favorite recording artist (Celine will always be #1 - and that’s the way it is) to drop some new flavors of Timbits, aka Donut Holes, aka Timbiebs. (GUT AGENCY)
🎅 Coca-Cola - Chimney
Coke finally brings back their “Just for the taste of it” campaign - just kidding. This one’s called “Real Magic”. (DentsuMB)
📦 Amazon - Kindness
Amazon says that the greatest gift of all is kindness, so no need to order 1,000 cardboard boxes from them this year. Success! (Lucky Generals)
💬 Whatsapp - Just Send It
A lot of ads coming out of Facebook err- Meta this week. This spot from Whatsapp wants you to just send your messages already. Meta also dropped this ad. (In-house, and DROGA5 respectively)
If you have a friend or co-worker who likes ads as much as this basset hound loves a dryer vent, which is obviously a lot, share this post with them. You could also share this post on social media if you really want to be our pal.
